The dead cannot cry out for justice; it is a duty of the living to do so for them. Lois McMaster Bujold

.

This memorial website for Rebecca R. Marrero was originally on Memory-of.com. However, because of repeated problems with Memory-of.com, this site has been recreated here on this server, to honor the memory of Rebecca Marrero, who was missing for over 28 years before she was finally found on December 23, 2010. Despite the webmaster's sponsorship of the website for Becky Marrero on Memory-of.com, the company refuses to keep it up and a complaint has been filed with the BBB. In the meantime, the site has been rebuilt here for Rebecca's friends and family to leave messages and pay tributes to her. My sincerest condolences to Becky's family and friends. If this website provides you even a small bit of comfort, it will not be in vain. ---Janice Harrison, Webmaster

This memorial website is to honor the memory of Rebecca R. Marrero, born Aug. 4, 1962. Rebecca was murdered on or about Dec. 3, 1982, the date she disappeared from the "SeaTac Strip" in Seattle, Washington State. Rebecca (aka Becky) left behind a two-year old daughter, Shawnte Fashaw. On December 23, 2010, two days before Christmas, Rebecca's remains were finally found near Auburn, WA, in a ravine. The medical examiner identified them and Rebecca's family has been notified. At long last, Rebecca Marrero has come home.  Rebecca's remains were interred at a private service by her family.

Rebecca disappeared on December 3, 1982, after receiving a phone call at her mother's home in White Center. It is not known who called her, but it was probably a pimp. She was told to go out and work that night. Becky asked her father for $20 to pay for a room for one night, and she took a bus to the SeaTac Strip. She registered at the Western Six Motel. She was never seen or heard from again. When she disappeared, she was wearing a blue denim dress and tennis shoes. Becky had a tattoo of a cross on her hand.

Rebecca's younger sister, Mary Marrero, has always stated that she knew Becky would someday be found. Mary had always looked up to her older sister, even looking for her when she was out; sometimes she may think she recognizes a familiar face, but it's never Becky. Mary says that it's hard for her to sleep and the entire family has been devastated by Becky's disappearance. Their mother had a breakdown and Mary herself has difficulty not only sleeping at night, but also with trusting others. Mary characterized her sister Becky as very bright and with a wonderful personality. She said her sister was very generous and caring, and would go out of her way to help others, no matter what the circumstances.  The Marrero family lost Becky's father when the children were small, and Becky's mother, who did not speak English well, had little money and few job skills.

Gary Ridgway, arrested in 2001 for the murders of at least 49 women in the Seattle area, has denied killing Rebecca Marrero, but he never recognized any of the faces of the women he murdered. Because Rebecca's remains were just found, prosecutors and detectives are going back over all the evidence, to learn if they can convict him of her murder. He was not charged with it when his plea deal was negotiated in 2003.

Mary Marrero was also shocked to learn that Debra Lorraine Estes, a good friend of Becky's who used to stay with the Marrero family, was also killed. "We loved her,"she said. Debra Estes's remains were finally found in 1988, six years after she vanished. Debra disappeared a few months before her friend Becky Marrero.

The Marrero family has been devastated by the loss of the older sister, Rebecca. This memorial website is to honor her memory. Like the other girls Ridgway killed, Becky Marrero certainly had hopes, plans, and dreams, which she was unable to fulfill, because she was taken much too soon.
