This is my heartfelt condolence to Rebecca Marrero's family and friends.
I watched the news conference via the Web, as Becky's mother was helped into the courtroom by her daughter, Mary Marrero, who has witnessed more horror in her lifetime than anyone should ever have to endure. I know that she lost not only her sister, but also her daughter, both in senseless acts of violence for which there are no words.
Mary, I know how much you loved your sister, Rebecca. I know she was older than you, and you watched out for each other. I know she has been your guardian angel all these years. It is painful to think that she lay there, in that ravine, until she was found by the Hagan children, who notified the police. I read that you looked at Becky's remains, how you looked at every bone of her body, probably thinking that this was all that was left of the sister you played with as a child, whom you loved so much.
Although we have never met, and I live on the other side of the country, in Pennsylvania, I put up the other website for your sister on Memory-of.com, which was still active at the time your sister was found. I got a phone call about Becky being discovered from KIRO-TV, because they also wanted to do a feature on the other victims who were still missing, especially Keli McGinness and Kase Ann Lee, who are still missing. The reporter wanted to know if I would give them Keli's mother's name. I told them No, as I wanted to preserve her privacy, but that I would call her myself and tell her about Becky being found. I was truly stunned, and all I could think of was "What was lost is found."
